Mask mandates are about to be lifted in many areas across the country. I have mixed feelings about this shift. Dropping our masks means we can see each other smile, but it also means scary times for people with compromised health conditions. For the sake of those folks (and myself as an older person) I […]

I have a new website – about my BOOK!
The Cherry Pie Paradox: The Surprising Path to Diet Freedom and Lasting Weight Loss is sequential process of awareness exercises that puts the reader in the role of curious scientist, seeking to discover and dismantle the counter-productive thoughts, beliefs, habits, and behaviors that have kept them stuck in the yo-yo syndrome. It’s based on Thin Within–the revolutionary anti-diet workshop program I created in 1975 to heal myself forever of a food and diet obsession. During the 1970s it became the leading weight loss program in the San Francisco Bay Area, and aspects of it have been adapted and adopted ever since.
No new clothes in 2020! 365 different outfits.
Challenge: can I make 365 different outfits out of the clothes already in my closet, without buying any new ones in 2020? Could you? A custom color palette makes it easy.
Family values: color analysis version
Personal color palettes are contagious! Once you have your colors done, everyone else wants their own palette.
Alike as two peas in a pod? No such thing!

Packing panic? Personal Palette to the Rescue!
I’m heading out for a five week trip, mostly in France. Long trips send many people into a packing panic. Not me. I’ve created a capsule wardrobe that fits nicely into a single carry-on bag. [Ok, I’m also bringing a backpack for my laptop and reading matter. Mid-trip I’m going to Lisbon for three days and will ditch the laptop and use the backpack for a […]

Pat, a Rose-Tone Summer Pat is the seventh client we (personal stylist Margo Passadore and I) took for a photo shoot at Nordstrom in April. Every client (like every person who has ever gone clothes shopping!) has some sort of “issue” that makes finding the right style, fit or color so challenging. Pat’s issue was a significant change in her shape after […]

Karla: a “Dusk Summer” Karla is the sixth client we (personal stylist Margo Passadore and I) took to Nordstrom in downtown Portland for a “Before and After” photo shoot. She is a marketing manager at a large hospital system in Portland, and also a gardener, runner and cook. She’ll do her 10th Hood-to-Coast race this year. As a professional woman […]
“Why does my ‘Season’ matter if I know my best colors?”
This is a great question! If you already know that you look good in cool blues and greens, or in browns and rusts, who cares if you’re a Summer or an Autumn, Winter or Spring? The not-so-short answer to a complex matter: A palette of the most flattering hues for an individual, not only makes […]

Today we feature the fourth “Before and After Gal” personal stylist Margo Passadore and I took to Nordstrom in downtown Portland for a photo shoot (overview here). She’s a Dusk Summer who recently lost 45 pounds and was ready for a wardrobe refresh. Here’s her story: Heather is a busy Portland-based graphic designer. She’s 5’7″ with a body shape […]
