I’m heading out for a five week trip, mostly in France. Long trips send many people into a packing panic. Not me. I’ve created a capsule wardrobe that fits nicely into a single carry-on bag.
[Ok, I’m also bringing a backpack for my laptop and reading matter. Mid-trip I’m going to Lisbon for three days and will ditch the laptop and use the backpack for a few clothes because EasyJet charges $45 each way for a normal carry-on. I’d rather spend the $90 on fun. Wouldn’t you?]
What’s the Carry-On Capsule Secret?
Use just a handful of colors. The ones above are just a subset of my complete custom color palette. It makes packing easy because everything will mix and match. I pick a couple each of dark and light neutrals, plus a pop or two of color, et voilà! Une belle dame à la mode d’une valise. See photos below.
- Dark neutrals:
- Denim blue (jeans, overblouse, navy palazzo pants with beige polkadots, raincoat not shown)
- Eggplant (skinny jeans, dressy knit top, long-sleeve T)
- Light neutrals:
- Cream/pale beige (linen slacks, cami, cotton cardigan, dressy blouse)
- Silver gray (linen shirt, silky T, pin-stripe slacks, Toms slip-ons, handbag not shown)
- Color pops:
- Blush (light overblouse, cami, scarf, flats)
- Blueberry (light overblouse, cami, long-sleeve T, short sleeve T, )
- 4 print scarves that combine the colors and 3 necklaces
I know. You can’t even see the dark eggplant top and pants because they’re so dark. Or the bluejeans. If I have a chance I’ll take and post photos as I wear different combinations.
Finally, here are the three necklaces which will dress up the plain tops in various ways. Earrings not shown.
