As a personal color analyst, I’ve had many clients come to me in despair because they can no longer figure out what colors look good on them. As their natural coloring fades or changes with age and UV exposure, they turn to hair color — and suddenly something is off. It’s because the hair shade is not in harmony with their skin tones and eye color.
I was less than 40 when my hair started to go gray, and like many women back then who were working in a man’s world (the computer industry) I felt I needed all the youthful presence I could muster. The problem was I could never find a color that was more flattering than what nature was trying to give me. If my hairdresser did find a good match, it only stayed that way for a couple of weeks before it turned brassy or coppery and made me look sallow or florid.
I finally gave up and grew it out. Not only do I look much better, I’ve also saved hundreds of dollars and hours of time, plus I’ve avoided exposure to all those chemicals.
So, are you on the fence–to color or not to color? Or are you already gray and stumped about how to still look hot? The first step, if you live in the Portland/Vancouver metro area, is to get your colors done.
You may find that when you’re wearing the right color clothes, based on your custom palette, your natural graying hair color looks better than you expected. Or we may be able to find a hair color suggestion that is more flattering than those you’ve tried.
As one client said after deciding to let her hair go natural, “I was just tired of trying to look 20 years younger than I am; it’s freeing to embrace who I am today. I did it for me, but never expected the flood of compliments on my new look!”
