Natural Beauty vs. the Red Carpet

I’m fascinated by some of the outfits celebrities wear for their moment in the spotlight. Most look ok, but some… OMG what were they thinking??? Is it Stylist’s Revenge?

At this year’s Oscars Maya Rudolph (who is an incredibly talented actress and comedian) looked like she grabbed her grandmother’s bedroom curtains. I suspect she’s an Autumn… and Autumn’s do not wear hot pink. Or ruffles and bows. Or floral prints. It completely overpowers her. The print on the right is from 2018 SAG awards I think. Better, but those sleeves?? Maya Rudolph should not wear prints like these. Joy Overstreet, Portland's personal color consultant. ColorStylePDX.com

Much better to go simple. Doing more of a warm Winter look below:

I do not think Yalitza Aparicio, the indigenous star of Roma, should wear pastel mint green. The perky Spring hue looks unnatural and “wears” her. She’s an Autumn or a warm Winter (possibly even a Summer, judging from her quiet soft personality). Just not even remotely a Spring. The other pix are Photoshop experiments, all more flattering. Which do you think lets her beauty shine through best?

Back to earth, and away from the Red Carpets, I captured two beauties recently, each of whom rocked their color choices. An Afro-Asian woman in the purples of  a soft Summer and an Iranian warm Winter in an electric yellow top, a color that is hard for most of us to pull off, but she does it.
